Review an accident report
Summary: You will open a report's detail view, understand what each tab holds and who can see it, edit fields in place, and work the deferred conclusions.
A filed report opens on a tabbed detail page. Which tabs you see, and whether you can change them, depends on your access bands. The active tab is reflected in the address bar, so a link to a specific tab is shareable.

Status
A report's status is a label (Open, Closed, or Record Only) and nothing locks:
- Open/Closed is set by hand from a control beside the header badge that only a Claim-band holder sees. A Closed report stays fully editable: narratives get grammar fixes and claims reopen.
- Record Only is derived, never stored: it displays whenever the "Incident Only" determination is Yes. The hand-set Open/Closed label persists underneath.
Edit inline
Every field-set card and every subject, witness, or vehicle row carries its own Edit control; using it turns that one card or row into a form in place, and saving writes only the fields on that card or row. Only one editor is open at a time. A reader who can view but not edit sees no edit controls at all.
Correcting a filed report needs the Claim band. Any write, even fixing the account or a subject, requires the Claim band on the report's track. Roles that can create a report but hold only the Scene band (Regional/District Asset Protection Managers, Store Coordinators) cannot correct or delete one once it is filed.
The deferred conclusions
Root cause, corrective action, and "was this hazard known beforehand?" are conclusions, not scene observations: they cannot be answered honestly while the injured party is still at the clinic. They live on the Prevention tab, filled in later, on both tracks. Prevention saves explicitly, with a visible saved/unsaved state.
The footage gate: when the report records that CCTV exists and the footage has not yet been marked reviewed, the Prevention tab prompts the reviewer to watch the footage (naming the cameras) before recording a cause. Recording the review clears the prompt; a report with no CCTV never shows it.
Deferred rows never read as a blank. Each post-scene row shows one of three things: an answer; "awaiting" plus who owes it (chase them); or "later" plus why it cannot exist yet, such as a return-to-work date (don't chase).
Good to know
- Codes are always shown spelled out: a cause of injury reads
29: Fall or slip on the same level, on screen and in every PDF. - Injury severity is not recorded anywhere: it was removed deliberately (a filer's severity guess becomes a litigation argument); medical treatment is the objective proxy.
- Deletion is soft: reports, child records, and even attachments are flagged deleted and hidden, but the stored files are retained because scene photos are litigation artifacts.
- There is no per-field change history on a report today: an edit overwrites the previous value. Whether an accident report needs the kind of append-only change history a case carries is an open product question.
