Scan product barcodes
Summary: You will use the barcode scanner inside a product entry to look up a product and fill in its details automatically.
Prerequisites
- A device with a rear-facing camera.
- A secure (HTTPS) connection: the scanner does not work on an insecure connection.
- You are adding a product to an incident or a case item.
Scan a product
- Inside a product entry, select Scan barcode. Your device's rear-facing camera opens with a live viewfinder.
- Point the camera at the barcode. The camera closes as soon as a code is read.
- The platform looks up the code and fills in the product name, brand, category, description, and a confidence level.
- Review and correct the filled-in details.
The scanner reads these barcode types: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, QR Code, and Data Matrix.
Good to know
- If the product cannot be identified, the raw barcode is shown and you type the details yourself.
- The category always comes from the platform's fixed product-category list: never free text invented by the lookup. This keeps categories consistent for analytics.
- No camera, no button. If your device has no camera, the scan button does not appear at all.
- If camera permission is denied, you are told how to re-enable it in your browser settings.
- Who can scan. Every internal role that can create or edit an incident can use the scanner, and so can a store associate on the submission form. External Partners cannot.
