Install the platform on your phone or computer

Summary: You will install the Retailium platform on your phone, tablet or computer, so it opens in its own window instead of a browser tab.

The platform runs in your web browser. When you install it, an icon is added to your home screen or your computer, and the app opens without the browser's address bar and buttons. Nothing is downloaded from an app store, and the app behaves exactly as it does on the web.

Before you begin

  • Your device needs an internet connection.
  • You need the web address for the platform. If you do not have it, ask your administrator.
  • You can install the app before or after you sign in.

Which steps to follow

The steps depend on your device. Follow only the section that matches yours.

Install on Android

These steps use Chrome. If you use a different browser on Android, switch to Chrome first.

  1. Open Chrome and go to the platform web address.
  2. Wait for the page to finish loading.
  3. If a prompt to install appears near the bottom of the screen, tap Install, then go to step 7.
  4. If no prompt appears, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  5. Tap Install app. Some Chrome versions label the same option Add to Home screen.
  6. In the confirmation dialog, tap Install, or Add if that is the label you see.
  7. The platform icon is added to your home screen. Tap it to open the app.

If you see no option to install, the app may already be installed, or the page may still be loading. Reload the page and try again.

Install on iPhone or iPad

There is no automatic install prompt on iPhone and iPad, so you add the app yourself, from the iOS share sheet. Every browser on iOS opens the same share sheet, so the Add to Home Screen step is the same one everywhere. What differs between browsers is where the Share button sits. The steps below were recorded in Chrome, where it sits at the top of the screen, to the right of the address bar.

  1. Open your browser and go to the platform web address.
  2. Wait for the page to finish loading.
  3. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. In Chrome it is at the top of the screen, to the right of the address bar.
  4. In the share sheet, scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  5. Optionally, edit the name shown under the icon.
  6. Tap Add in the top-right corner.
  7. The platform icon is added to your home screen. Tap it to open the app.

Install on a computer

These steps use Chrome. Other desktop browsers offer the same thing in a different place.

  1. Open Chrome and go to the platform web address.
  2. Wait for the page to finish loading.
  3. Open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Choose Cast, save, and share.
  5. Choose Install, then confirm. Chrome versions word this option slightly differently.

Chrome installs the platform as an app and opens it in its own window. A shortcut is added wherever your computer keeps its apps, so you can start it again without opening the browser first.

Open the app

Tap or click the platform icon. The app opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar and buttons. Sign in when prompted, the same way you sign in on the web.

What you see after signing in depends on your role. Store associates land on the store-floor form described in Submit an incident from the store floor, and everyone filling in an incident on a phone can dictate instead of typing, as described in Use voice-guided entry.
